London Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2011:

Todd Lynn

Whispered by The Clothes Whisperer

Todd Lynn has a good thing going. An edgy designer who's sharp cuts and dramatic flair for darkness put him in a category with Rick Owens, Margiela and the other cool kids. Designers of this vein aren't for everyone, they instead amass a cult following which, so long as the product continues to deliver, will stay loyal unto the end.

Thus all that is needed to update what I like to call the everyday avant garde from season to season is a tweak here or there, a new statement piece and a new theme to gloss the same old black and monochrome fiercely tailored separates. In the case of Lynn this season, it was his experimentation with fur, which could best be described as aggressive yet elegant.

White saga fox fur jackets boasted exaggerated collars and rough cut patches of caramel mink cascaded down the back of a blazer or wrapped around a leather bodice. No wideleg bohemian trousers here, pants featured wraparound zippers and biker attitude. There were plenty of fluid wool jersey tops as well as panelled, body conscious knitwear which was scarred with destroyed stitches. Gauntlet gloves and sky-high Louboutins finished the androgynous looks.
